We love Columbia City Vet! Our first experience with them was when our cat was very sick earlier this year and we sadly had to say goodbye. Their team took such great care of us and explained everything that was going on with the illness, worked us into the schedule when we were as ready as we could be to say goodbye, and the actual event was one of the most compassionate and kind experiences of my life. We truly felt loved by their entire staff, and the signed card that was sent to us a few days later really expressed to us their care.

Further, we’ve now been in with our dog for a dental issue and we’re receiving the same care and compassion we were shown the first time. Dr. Lutton has been amazing dealing with our drama-filled chihuahua and has explained everything thoroughly. He was even willing to get her in sooner for a tooth extraction!

The clinic is clean and smells amazing, their staff truly cares about you and your pet, and the location is convenient for us. We are looking forward to being long time customers with Columbia City Vet.

This isn’t a rant about a one off bad visit at a vet.

I’ve been to many vets - from emergency vets, to specialist vets, to just general practice vets. I am grateful for vets and their staff, how hard they work, and all they put up with.

When I got my new puppy, I tried Columbia City Vet. First visit was meh, but I gave them a few more chances - things got worse with each visit.

This was clearly a management / business issue.
I didn’t need a “free” tote bag. I needed competent veterinary services.

Columbia City Vet appears to use a one size fits all automated checklist system that does not allow for deviation or individualization. Reminders are great, but multiple reminders for stuff that’s already been done is not reassuring.

Unlike other vets where they do most non-surgical treatment like vaccinations (and even euthanasia) and nail trims with you in the room - this place whisks your dog away. My 3 month old pup had no fear of clothes or leashes until they trimmed her nails - its taken months of gentle reconditioning to partially undo whatever they did.

Thankfully, I was able to get my pup in at a trusted clinic where they tailor their recommendations and treatment to her specific needs.

Very friendly vets and team members. 1
Our cat was scheduled for an anethesized tooth extraction and during the visit, the doctor called us and said that after getting a better look at x-rays she did not need the full procedure. The cost was reduced accordingly. Appreciate the honesty.

This vet office is one of a kind! My dog has recurring ear infections, which he has been struggling with since I adopted him earlier this year. Dr. Dertinger has been so caring, thorough, and helpful with treating these infections. She has suggested different treatments and has been meticulous in analyzing whether each treatment was working. She carefully reviewed my dog's past medical records before my first visit and continues to carefully review testing results when they come back.

More than that, it is clear Dr. Dertinger really cares about her patients. She takes the time to get to know your pet. She is thorough in getting background information from me, and she is detailed in answering my questions. I never feel like she is in a rush when she is examining my dog. She emailed me once on a Sunday night when a culture came back showing my dog had a nasty ear infection and the office was able to squeeze me in for an appointment the next day.

The vet office is very comfortable, clean, and smells nice (they always have candles!). My dog generally is anxious, but when we get to the vet, he pulls on his leash to try to get inside sooner. All of the staff are so friendly and show my dog so much love! When Dr. Dertinger first comes into the exam room, she sits on the floor with my dog and pets him. Pets truly come first in this office, and I cannot recommend it enough.

Staff and vets are very friendly and helpful. The place is so clean - absolutely spotless - and nicely decorated. Efficient scheduling and service. There are a few free spots in a lot for tenants of the building including Columbia City Vet just east of the entrance, and the paid parking on the street and a $2/hour pay lot across the street.

I believe a dog previously under my care referred to me by staff was unethically euthanized by a staff member. I called in and sent an email to the company prior to the dog's death and my calls and emails were entirely ignored despite having a regular conflict free relationship with the company for 5 years. I do not know all the details of the death since I was not there but I do know that I volunteered to home the dog and my requests were rejected by the staff member. My requests to have additional time to find a suitable owner were also denied. The company did not respond to my attempts to communitlcate the situation and prevent or at least delay the euthanization. Up to this point I had been a regular customer with the company. I no longer will be a customer. I will also be reporting the staff member and potentially the company for ethics violations. I am not an expert on ethics but I believe euthanization is an extreme measure and should be taken only after all more humane routes are explored. My urgent attempts to contact the company should not have been ignored.

We've had care for our cats here for the last year and recently one was very sick and they called us every day to check up on his status and so we could change course of treatment as needed. They care a lot and provided good care.

I’ve been taking my cats Humphrey & Harley to Columbia City Vet from day one that I rescued them. The courtesy and care towards my fur babies and me has been top notch every time, even through COVID. Maggie Schroeder’s knowledge and calm bed side manor really give me and my cats the confidence to be at ease and ask any questions, as silly as they may sound sometimes. Thanks for the years of service to me and the greater community.
