This experience happened in early may of last year- right before a move. Despite how long it’s been I don’t think I can fully have closure until I put out there the situation I went through losing my family cat.
My cat had stopped eating and drinking and was struggling to maintain body heat on his own, he was brought in the following morning of the evening I noticed after calling a trusted vet and being directed to take him to Neel. They took my cat back quickly, and after about 30 minutes they brought me back. The vet assistant that took us back explained the situation, and told us the vet would be in shortly. Once the vet arrived I was IMMEDIATELY guilt tripped about the state of my cat, and told the only chance that he had was to hospitalize him (which i was unable to afford at the time due to living paycheck to paycheck and about to move THAT WEEKEND). I asked them if there was any possible way to treat him at a lower cost, and was basically told “No, either we run a bunch of tests costing over about 1000+ (not including treatment) or putting him down is the next best option”. I eventually was able to talk to another vet assistant and tried to see if I could treat him from home, which they did their best to write up a bill for that for me. When going over this bill they told me he’d need to be put on an IV and fed a special food, which I was completely fine with doing to the best of my abilities. We were about to go ahead with this treatment plan and then the vet came back shortly after and basically did and said everything they could to try and get me to hospitalize him. They even went so far as to say “You know you’re going to have to force feed him, right?” And to that I said No, I wasn’t told that and before I could even tell her that I was comfortable doing that she goes “Yeah, well I think YOU WERE told that. There’s no way you weren’t”. At the end of it all I felt so bad and discouraged that I ended up putting him down there, a decision that felt like they rushed me into and I regret so severely even now.
Please do not let this vet pressure you like they did me. They don’t know your background or your animal’s background and at least the vet that saw my boy was very quick to judge and guilt trip. I was freshly moved out of my family’s house from across the state, and the cat had only been my full responsibility for the last few months. He was very fluffy and I couldn’t see how his body had declined, and he was acting fine up until the last two days. It happened so extremely fast. And I was treated like an idiot who purposely neglected their animal by someone who is supposed to have you and your pets best interest in mind. Also it’s worth mentioning if you go to indeed and look at EMPLOYEE REVIEWS it mentions there a few times about how poorly they treat employees, as well as how they MAKE FUN OF low income or upset clients in private. What an awesome inside look! I was never once rude, mean, combative, or hard to deal with the entire time there, for the record.
Pictures of him, happy and (at least seemingly) healthy just a week or two prior.

Brought my sweet pup in at 10:30pm. She was not breathing. They were very fast to take her and put her on oxygen. She was a 12 year old Pom with congestive heart failure. I was not pressured but it was decided that she should be put down. Everyone was very kind and supportive. They even gave me a little bottle with her hair in it as a keepsake and a sweet card signed by all of them. I was surprised at how inexpensive it was for all they did. Very pleased. Thank you Dr Wessels, Ashley and Maddie.

I took my male cat in for a uti since he was bleeding and couldn't urinate. I waited a few hrs total to get the results. They had to keep him overnight for 4 days on a catheter to get him unblocked since he had crystals blocking his urethra. Costed about $4000 which I had no problem with. Only reason I went there was that I lived 10 mins away, otherwise the i240 animal emergency vet is where I've went before and their staff is excellent. I visited my cat every evening after my 12-14 hr shifts and would bring him a new blanket (which I got none back.)whatever, but no problem. This is the part I didn't like; When I was supposed to take my cat home, they said he was urinating on his own so he could go home. I asked if he would reblock and they said there was a chance in the future since he now has a history but he's fine now. They gave him some take home meds to help break up the last lil bit of crystals that were still in his system. I took him home and he went to the bathroom but had a thin stream of urine. I thought that he was supposed to be normal like neels said but I thought that maybe the meds hadn't kicked in so I finished them and he still was barely urinating and seemed to get blocked again and it was a wk later. I called neels to ask what they could do or if there was more med they could prescribe but I was told that he was released and that would be a whole other exam amd charge and they couldn't just give me more meds for him. At that I was pissed and hung up on them to call my regular vet who saw him right away and prescribed him 2 meds and got him cleared up. Neels didn't have to be so greedy and at least tell me that he'd be blocked by the time he finished their meds so I could have made an appointment sooner with my vet so he didn't have to go through that again. Not taking any animal there again. There's plenty of other emergency vets around that'll charge the same amount but they don't withhold info and at least won't charge again for the same issue if it's in a wks time that it came up again. This was back in 2022 btw and he's doing great. Still on his prescription diet. Just don't go here cuz they don't disclose everything even if u ask

Our family will forever be grateful for the ICU staff at Neel! Our sweet dog, Duke suffered from GVD and the outcome wasn’t looking great. The vet never once pressured us into anything but always gave us our options and honest outcomes of those options. They took wonderful care of our fur baby and he is home sooner than expected. He’s even recovering better than expected and we owe it to the wonderful ICU staff! The care they show is amazing and their communication with us was top tier!

I brought my sweet kitty Goose here because he pulled out some stitches in the middle of the night that he had put in a few days prior. The staff was FANTASTIC. The front desk girls were so kind and friendly, not to just me, but to everyone who came in while I was there. It’s not easy to be upbeat and friendly at 3am but everyone was so nice. Dr. French and Chevy took care of my kitty quickly and got him all fixed up. I had a great experience here and cannot recommend it enough.

Today I found our cat very lethargic and his health was declining quickly and we were thinking poison and the worst was imminent. We live in Norman and everywhere wanted $300+ for and emergency and probable euthanasia. I finally called Neel and they were not only affordable but we're able to calm me down and rushed out to take our furbaby soft paws immediately back. At The end they were comforting and even gave us a coffin for home burial. Words can not describe how grateful I am to them. Thank you
