Our family has been using South Hill Vet Hospital for about 17 yrs now, We love them, we just miss Dr Lawrence to pieces, Dr Chang is wonderful and we see her often. Our Big floofy boy saw the groomer Monday July 8th, we love his cut. He is a Great Pyrenees Clumber Spaniel mix, as he's gotten older he has become allergic to himself. He gets hot spots especially in the hotter months, due to his super long thick coat, we can miss the hot spots, so shaving him helps... Kuddos to a job well done!! ( photos are before & after, we took a few lbs of fur iff this guy!)

I have been very disappointed with this vet lately and I have been bring my animals here for years. The front desk people are not friendly at all. The prices have went up alot and no one care to tell you until your checking out, especially when it's a monthly routine. But I will be looking for a new clinic. And I Suggest you do your research before before getting rob by these people... And I can't stress enough that the front desk people need better training. The vet techs are very nice though!!!

I love this place! They’re so good with Miss Roxanne I’ll never go anywhere else. Only thing I don’t like is different prices for different appointments. If it’s considered an urgent care appointment you get charged more.

Incompetent staff, including doctors and clinic manager. My pet required additional time during their initial stay, 2 extra days, which I was billed for, due to a mistake on their part. While the mistake was initially admitted to me on the phone, when in-person, its suddenly no longer a mistake or admitted to any wrong-doing. My pet came home after a week with the original issue unresolved (still continues to this day) and additional behavioral changes that had never been an issue previously. Following up with the clinic and bringing my pet back resulted in another $500 charge for no treatment or betterment of my pet. Doctors are unaware of the side effects of the drugs they give pets. I was adamantly told one thing, then again, another change after the follow-up. Based on a lengthy conversation with one of the Dr's I'm amazed they graduated high school let alone veterinary school. They cannot define basic terms nor are they knowledgeable about what they do or medications given. I trusted this vet for a long time, but will not bring any of my pets here going forward. This place has a serious issue with accountability and ethics, outright dishonest.

Our super cool cat Ricky who can sit and shake like a good boy has been going to South Hill Vet since we adopted him at 8 weeks old, he is a year old now. Everyone there are very knowledgeable and kind. We have always had very good experiences there and they have reasonable prices. We just had Ricky neutered this week, we all had a great experience, I mean as well as to be expected.... Ricky's cute little fuzzy balls could be better of course lol 😬
Anyway, I recommend South Hill Vet. P.S. It looked as if our precious Ricky gave them a bit of a tough time with the boxing up to go home but they were kind enough not to mention it 😉

I used to have a friend who worked here and started taking my dogs here for their vet services based on her recommendation. I think I've used them for about 4 years now? Over the past year or so they've completely gone downhill. In fact, I believe my dog Hank would still be alive if it hadn't been for their negligence. My dog started experiencing imbalance issues, stumbling often and was having trouble using his back legs. Tried to get him in but all they had was a drop off appointment. I tell you that at no point did I ever see him yelp, whine or wince from pain so I know he wasn't experiencing pain. I told them this. I dropped him off, the vet called later and said that he was panting, he twitched when they tried to touch him and because of that he must have a pinched nerve. Mind you, he's a dog who is not used to being in a kennel, didn't have his humans there to help him be calm so I would think as an experienced vet they would have taken that into consideration while doing their exam. I even asked the vet if I should take him into a neurologist and I was assured that it wasn't necessary and it was a pinched nerve issue and wait 2 weeks for the meds to work and if he doesn't get better to call back.
After the two weeks of being on meds, he progressively lost more function in his legs to where he couldn't go outside to go to the bathroom and I had to carry him out multiple times a day. I called back and let the vet know, and she then prescribed a steroid. After him being on the meds for 1 days, we woke up in the middle of the night to him having a violent seizure with blood and foam coming out of his mouth. We rushed him to the emergency vet where we were told that it was almost certainly not a pinched nerve because he was no pain associated with it. It was something either pressing on his spinal cord or attacking his spinal cord. They also said that one seizure is okay but if he has more (especially while being prescribed several meds to stop seizures) that it's a sign of a more serious issue. We were told to get him into a neurologist immediately because it was something that we could possibly mitigate with medication to where it may not get any better but it might be managed to not get worse. We got him home, and about an hour later he had another seizure. Then a few hours after that, another one. Over the course of 12 hours I had to sit and hold my best friend while he had 6 more seizures and I couldn't do anything but hold him and put a towel in his mouth so he didn't bite his tongue off.
At around 1 pm we called South Hill Vet to try to get him in for end of life care and the receptionist was so kind to tell us "I'll have to see if we can get him in today. You have to make an appointment and I don't think we have anything available."
So, while waiting he had another seizure...and I no longer needed their stupid appointment for them to end his suffering. I firmly believe that my little guy would be alive today if I hadn't been dissuaded from taking him to a neurologist. I will be taking my remaining dogs to a different vet because they are no longer the caring place they used to be. They're a business, not there to provide you or your pet comfort. I lost my best friend and they couldn't care less.
