My partner and I brought our cat, Suki to sunstone last week. She was admitted and stayed two nights. Dr. Haley Momany and the amazing team took countless phone calls from us and took great care of our baby. The team at sunstone put great effort to get Suki healthy again but unfortunately it was her time. We were able to take her home where she spent her last two nights with us 💔 When Suki was sent home we were given detailed and specific care instructions with all the needed medications/food to make her comfortable. Although this was a very difficult and overwhelming situation Sunstone’s high standards of care and customer service gave us peace of mind. Not only are the staff amazing but the facilities are new and updated. Everything is clean but the environment is calming and welcoming. Emergency care is expensive all over but you can go to sunstone and know that you are getting top notch service.

I brought my dog, Willow, to Sunstone Veterinary Specialists after she suddenly became very ill with vomiting and diarrhea. The team at Sunstone was exceptional from start to finish. They quickly assessed Willow's condition, conducted thorough diagnostics, and kept me informed every step of the way. Dr. Nyboer and the staff were not only professional but also compassionate, making sure Willow received the best care possible. The detailed aftercare instructions they provided helped Willow recover smoothly at home. I’m grateful for the excellent service we received and highly recommend Sunstone Veterinary Specialists for any pet care needs.

Very professional and kind people from front desk, assistants, and the surgeon. I was impressed with clear patient goals and procedures. While, my dog is being treated for a condition in the long term that is terminal, it was comforting to know my dog was getting skilled and best practices in treatment.

We came to this specialist with my cat in late July of 24 on a recommendation from our regular vet. We had maxed out what our regular vet could test in clinic for, and she was sent to Sunstone specifically for an ultrasound. She had been treated with GS for FIP, and was recovered for about 9 months before she had started vomiting on occasion, hence the referral. Maizy had no weight changes.

When we arrived, the vet tech was the one who looked her over, felt her abdomen, looked at her eyes, etc. The vet (Dr Goussev) then came in almost 30 minutes later, and started talking to me about how my cat had “suspected” FIP prior and made it sound like I had done the wrong thing by using GS to treat her without doing an endoscopy prior. This felt incredibly naive and uneducated on the disease to say, as I don’t know any vet who would suggest putting a sick FIP cat under anesthesia. Most would certainly not wake up, which is why it is very standard practice to check globulin and WBC to diagnose instead, like we did. The vet kept saying that she had suspected FIP (which is incorrect, as she was diagnosed properly with FIP by multiple vets) and said that since the drug was non-FDA approved it shouldn’t be used.

The vet finally agreed to do her ultrasound, which was stated before the appointment to cost a total of $1000 with the images and appointment together. The tech then brought me a quote to sign that had $3000 of services on it, and then asked me to sign a form saying that it was ok to use non-FDA approved drugs on my cat in clinic if necessary. This felt like a slap in the face after she told me that I did the wrong thing using GS to save my cats life - which just looking at her clinical symptoms through treatment and improved bloodwork over 6 months, was the correct choice. I ended up declining all services but the ultrasound, and they took my cat into the back.

They said the ultrasound would take 1-2 hours to perform. I said ok, and waited in my car. They called me 10 minutes before the 2 hours was up saying that they needed another hour. I waited in my car for another 45 minutes, and then went to wait inside for the remainder. The timestamps on her ultrasound pictures showed that they didn’t even start her ultrasound until I went back in the office, and the ultrasound itself only took 20 minutes. The vet was taking other appointments that appeared to just be regular wellnesses, while my sick cat was sitting for three hours waiting for her supposedly scheduled ultrasound.

Her ultrasound results showed that she had an inflamed GI tract. The vet basically said there was nothing that she could do without an endoscopy. She offered no treatment plan, no steroid to help her be comfortable and reduce inflammation, and no advice beyond doing an endoscopy. I left the clinic with no answers, but an additional quote to spend $5-6k more for them to just diagnose my cat with an invasive procedure that would require her to be put under anesthesia. I got a second opinion from BluePearl, who instantly looked at their ultrasound results that they retook in house and her clinical symptoms to put her on an anti-inflammatory, GS meds through Stokes pharmacy, and probiotics. They actually took steps to help my cat without my spending $6 thousand dollars, and when we retook her ultrasound to check after 6 months of treatment, everything looked perfect.

Sunstone wasted both our time and money, both of which are extremely valuable when treating an FIP cat. Their clinical notes stated things that weren’t even discussed with me in house, so I had to send emails and ask several questions after the appointment and only got vague answers in response. The cost and risks associated needed to be factored into my cats treatment. There WERE other options that the vet chose not to discuss with me that did help my cat. We wasted a thousand dollars here, just to have to pay for a second ultrasound and second opinion. I would caution everyone to do your research on any of their treatment plans to ensure that it is actually the safest choice for your pet.

We had to take our senior dachshund in around 5am on Sunday due to severe GI issues. We had zero wait time and were out of the appointment in under 30 minutes. The cost for the exam was $210, which feels reasonable for an after hours emergency visit. The vet and tech were both easy to communicate with and compassionate. We put down a deposit of $3885 and received a refund for half that amount when we picked up our dog. Our dog received an IV for roughly 12 hours, anti nausea medication, antibiotics, and a few other medications. He also had several lab tests and was there for 13 hours. Emergency vet services are expensive, it’s just a fact but the cost felt within reason for the after hours emergency services. We felt like our dog was well cared for, the facility was nice, and the team were helpful and caring. We would definitely return if we need emergency service.

I had an emergency and had to visit sunstone a couple weeks ago when my dog had a red eye with discharge and I was worried she might have scratched it and had an infection. I was so impressed by the friendly and knowledgeable staff, the amazing facilities, and the high level of care my dog received. Turned out she just had conjunctivitis(pink eye) but it was important to get it properly diagnosed and treated. They were completely transparent and upfront with the costs of each part of the treatment. It wasn’t cheap but no emergency veterinary care is. They were really kind with my service dog, allowed, and encouraged me to stay in the room while they tested her eye for scratches, and checked it for any trapped debris. The staff was really friendly and understanding of my own mental health and PTSD. The treatment rooms were the nicest I have ever seen with comfortable chairs and everything they could possibly need. They kept me and my dog calm during the treatment and were really compassionate. Honestly the best veterinary care I have experienced in my life. 12/10 would recommend to anyone. Thanks again to the staff for helping me and Saiti out.

We had an emergency with our cat on a Saturday morning and reached out to numerous other vets, including our regular, only to find that no one had the staff or time to help. Finally someone suggested Sandstone. They were a little further for us but well worth it! They were very friendly, communicative and did an amazing job stitching our cat back together. He has since healed and would go their without hesitation if the need arose again. Which I hope it won't:)
