Our 1.5 yo boxer pup was in distress. We took her to the regular vet who assessed her and determined the need to transfer immediately to Swansboro Animal Hospital. They greeted us as we got out of the car and from that moment on KoKo and we had the most professional and compassionate care. Everyone from Dr Sarah, to the vet tech, to the front office staff was amazing. Dr Sarah spent so much time with us as we made difficult decisions, explaining every option with amazing compassion. Ultimately, KoKo wasn’t strong enough to make it through her surgery, and, again, Dr Sarah was so very kind. We can’t recommend this practice enough for any animal needing critical care.

They saved my cat's life this weekend. I can't express enough how grateful I am. Very nice, compassionate, and understanding staff. My cat was very sick and having trouble breathing. As soon as I got there they took her back and got started. She was there for almost 2 days. They kept me updated the whole time. Now she's home and getting back to it and our family is whole again. So thank you so much to the staff for saving her. ❤️

Wonderful caring staff. Saved my kitty and you could just tell they actually care. Hearing them in the back talking sweet to my baby and working fast to make aure he was going to make it just makes my heart happy to know we have a place like this close by. I've brought pets here before that unfortunately were in a place that it was time for them to go and the vets were up front with me then and now about whether they could and should be attempting to save them or let them put them down in a peaceful manner. I highly recommend!!

I can’t say enough about how caring and professional Swansboro Emergency Vet and staff is. We are at our place on Emerald Isle (my longtime vet is in Welcome, NC) and on Tuesday night my 15 year old schnauzer was showing scary signs of maybe a stroke. I called and was told to bring her in (7 pm). I wasn’t sure she was going to make it…they took her in, did X-rays, bloodwork and everything they needed to do to find out what was going on. They kept her overnight to monitor her…Dr. Dunnigan (and staff) were so amazing and compassionate (they even put a sweater on her overnight to keep her warm). I got to bring Bella home this morning…she is doing well and I am very grateful! I highly recommend Swansboro Animal Hospital…they are the best!!🤗❤️🐾

My beautiful and brilliant Brittany Lucy suffered an injury to her CCL (knee ligament) on June 28 while we were on vacation in the mountains. Lucy was treated at a great ER vet clinic in Asheville and we followed up with our local vet when we got home. I was so afraid that Lucy would need surgery because of the nature of the injury. Lucy is the sweetest, happiest, smartest, most magnificent Brittany in the history of the world and I adore her beyond measure. The thought of surgery was almost unbearable. Then our friends Chris and Andrea advised us to see Dr. Bob, who operated on their Boxer, Annabelle. That was the best advice I have ever received in my life. I called and got an appointment for Lucy within the week. Upon arrival at our 7:30 am appointment
Courtney greeted us warmly, got us all checked in and took Lucy to be examined. Within a short time, Dr. Bob came out with Lucy. He explained every aspect of his examination of Lucy and gave me his opinion: that Lucy does not need surgery for now! Of course I immediately burst into tears of joy and relief. He detailed the results of his examination and his conclusion that she had suffered a strain and perhaps a small tear of the CCL, but not enough to require surgery at this point in her life since she is young and healthy and exhibited no pain, swelling or other symptoms of a major tear or trauma. He did not rush through our consultation, answered every question, explained the tests and X-rays which were done at the ER vet in Asheville, and gave me so much information to help Lucy. Dr. Bob is so kind and caring, and stroked and talked to Lucy during our visit (while telling her how wonderful she is). He recommended conservative treatment rather than radical surgery, with continued crate and leash restrictions accompanied by a course of physical therapy. Dr. Bob was very candid and warned me that Lucy may need the surgery in future should she suffer a CCL injury, and advised me that this particular injury typically reoccurs, so I will know to be vigilant. Lucy is doing great and is looking forward to her first PT appointment, and being able to run and play with her sisters Phoebe and Mae again. It’s difficult to put into words how much gratitude and respect I have for Dr. Bob Guttroff. I will never forget his kindness, honesty, integrity, and dedication to his patients. My Lucy and I will always love you, Dr. Bob!

This emergency vet is truly amazingly. My dog was attacked by another dog sustaining multiple wounds. They took her in right away, ended up having minor surgery. They spoke to my wife and I on what to expect and the minimal and the most. I was able to leave her and come back and get her. (Dropped her off at 4pm). The vet stated she was unsure she was able to get to my dog before shift change, due to a immediate surgery that needed to be done to another pet but the other vet will take it on; which I understand as my wife is a nurse and all the handoffs that need to be given. They even offered to keep her until the morning since it was 1am when they called that she was ready at no charge. Lindsey at the front desk is truly great! She answered all my concerning questions, she assisted us with Gracie, gave us extra pads due to the drain that was placed. I would drive the hour again just to go this emergency vet. Communication was great, I was able to call and check on my dogs status and never once did I feel like a burden. Biggest advice, I can give is that this is an emergency trauma for pets, try to be patient it’s like a human ER they have to treat the most unstable first. It took hours, but I was thankful my dog was stable. They helped fix my doggy, and that’s all I can ask for and the friendly staff! Great job! Don’t lose the momentum y’all have!

I can’t thank the entire staff for the compassionate and excellent care they provided to my very pregnant Frenchie. All the care options were discussed with us. We chose the c-section surgery option. The staff provided care updates the entire time we were there and we left with a sleepy momma and her six babies. Highly recommend if you need emergency care for pets.
