So I called, hoping to be around other veterans. Well even though I was in theater as a Patriot missile crew member, I’m not cool enough. This entity is funded by grants. The Vet Center as on organization has no policy stating it’s required to have “boots on the ground” Specifically in Iraq no mention of the Afghan war. So I’m disappointed. I live Austin and the support for veterans is atrocious. No VFW only the legion. Only one VSO that’ doesn’t answer his phone and if you leave a message he doesn’t call back. Seriously, it’s outrageous.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS NOT NOT NOT THE AUSTIN VA CLINIC, IT IS THE VETERAN CENTER!!! They are different! I have two AMAZING therapists here that always go above and beyond to help me and my partner in individual and couple’s counseling. My partner isn’t a vet and has been searching for an individual therapy option, and our couple’s counselor reached out to numerous of her colleagues to see if anyone had an opening (which they did!) I’ve never been partial to anything VA-related, but these are truly amazing people and I’m blessed to have found them!

I visited this entity about 1.5yrs ago. After a few visits, my purpose in their services were completed. They claim to offer counseling services to Combat Veterans. I started again in January 2024 by going in and seeking counseling assistance. I was told I would get a call in 1 week. 2 months later, I called in asking what's going on. They didn't have an answer. Gal on the phone took all my information and said the director would get in touch with me. 2 months later (April 2024), still nothing. I visited 4.9.24. Spoke in person with the director. She claimed they had the wrong phone number for me. Then, she repeated the number for me, which was correct. She then said, "Oh yea, I left a voicemail for someone in your town." She then said I would get a call by 4.11.24. It's now 4.18.24, but still no communication. No wonder why our veterans sometimes struggle when being offered beneficial services only to get "lost in the paperwork." Very disappointing.

I had one good counselor there, but she left. This place may work for you if you’re a dude. They were very rude the first time I arrived without a mask (summer 2022, after most places became mask free) but then every time I’d show up for an appointment 10+ guys would come out of group not wearing masks, including the counselors. Different rules for different people. Old. Stuck in old ways.

These people are great. I accidentally ended up here while looking for the bigger Austin VA Outpatient Clinic. But I'm very glad I did they offer a lot of services for veterans from counseling for PTSD, Mental Health and provide a lot of resources for finding jobs and generally in improving the life of a veteran. They're pretty knowledgeable and on things that they didn't know about such as the parenting classes that I was looking for they went and did the research while I was there and came back out and provided me with the information that I needed. Above and beyond their job description my opinion I say thanks to them and definitely recommend other vets go there when in need.

Vet Center counselors and groups are really really helpful. Vet Center does not base their care on how much money you make so the Reviewer below must be talking about some other office.
Here are the services I am aware of and have sat in on:
Individual Counseling
Relationship Management.
Mindfullness
TaiChi
Yoga
Anger Management
OIF/OEF Group

They also have a full time DAV representative officed here that can help with VA Claims.

This is a wonderful organization, location and gem of resources.

Very rude staff, woman named Lisa was “supposed” to be helping a vet, and was just yelling at him. I witnessed her unprofessional behavior over the phone, she would not let him get a word in and concluded with “I can see we are not going to work together”, and hung up!! He was trying to ask a question and she REFUSED to let him. How is this helping the veterans? Why is she even an employee when she’s clearly rude, and disrespectful. Your job is to help the veterans not belittle, insult, and yell at, which is ALL she did over the phone. Will be recording all VA affiliated phone calls on this end as well, so next time y’all can hear it for yourselves. I gave one star to be able to give my review, in reality the service is all the way negative.

With it the right Therapist healing takes place. I am here to defend the therapists who work in this facility
Yes,it's very hard, sometimes slow and non existent in moving forward, but if one sticks with the therapist, even when you disagree, healing takes place,if one let's it occur. The hardest thing about therapy is letting someone in,and believing they are on your side. Every single therapist in this facility deserves a raise. They go above and beyond.
